Commission explores federal conservation easement programs

CT ENFIELD — The Enfield Agricultural Commission explores federal and state farm land protection programs. Chair Karen LaPlante reported on USDA initiatives including the Agricultural Easement Program, designed to protect croplands through conservation easements, and the commissioners discussed presenting the information to Town Council members. Commissioner Megan Kelley described findings from the Connecticut Land Conservation Conference, noting Connecticut has three membership-based community land trusts available for farmland preservation.

The commission also discussed potential preservation options for land behind Walgreens on Shaker Road.
