Commission orders rent reduction, escrow placement in housing complaint

CT ENFIELD — Fair Rent Commission reduces tenant rent to $900 in housing complaint. Wanda Reyes, a resident of 70 Tariff Road, alleged a leaking tub since 2022 and discriminatory conduct by landlord Elena Jovanovic, including a text stating she prefers to rent only to immigrants. Chair Linda DeGray and the Commission directed Jovanovic to place Reyes's rent in escrow, reduced June 2026 rent to $900, and ordered a complete unit inspection.

Commissioner Paul Januszewski's investigation revealed thirteen open building permits for the property dating to 2013. The hearing was continued to June 24.
