Council deliberates budget, announces state funding and new revenue initiatives

CT ENFIELD — Enfield Council learns of nearly $1.88 million in new state funding for the budget. Councilor John Santanella announced approximately $1.01 million in additional Education Cost Sharing funds, $300,000 in one-time ambulance reimbursement, and $565,467 in tax relief, all reducing the town's burden for the coming fiscal year. Councilor Maya Matthews proposed a tiered fee structure on rent increases for out-of-town landlords, ranging from $150 per unit for 3-6 percent increases to $350 per unit for larger increases.
Assistant Town Manager Steve Bielenda presented Bus Patrol, an AI camera system that monitors school buses at no upfront cost to the town, with an estimated 500 violations monthly. The Council will formally adopt the budget on May 11.
