Council Holds Public Hearing on School Modernization Plan
Town Council · Meeting of August 24, 2026
CT ENFIELD — Enfield Town Council holds public hearing on school modernization plan. The Council received community input on a proposed $511 million appropriation to construct four new elementary schools and convert one to a therapeutic day school, with the town seeking to bond up to $89 million. State reimbursement is expected to cover approximately 82 percent of costs, the highest rate Connecticut offers to any municipality.
Residents spoke both in support, citing poor building conditions and identified $330 million in maintenance needs, and in opposition, raising concerns about the town's $118.4 million existing debt load and whether piecemeal renovation might be more cost-effective.
