Council receives school modernization briefing ahead of fall referendum

CT ENFIELD — Town Council receives presentations on school modernization and Armory Branch trail planning. The Pre-Referendum Committee presented a preferred school modernization option to build four new pre-K through grade five schools and renovate Eli Whitney School to house Eagle Academy Therapeutic Day School over the 2026-2032 period, with a total project cost estimated at approximately $511 million and state reimbursement anticipated at 80 percent or higher, leaving an estimated $89 million cost to Enfield pending final legislative action. Councilor Carol Hall advised that final state reimbursement rates and certain requested waivers remain subject to the May conclusion of the Connecticut General Assembly's legislative session.
The Council also heard from the Capitol Region Council of Governments on preliminary planning for the Armory Branch multi-use trail project spanning 6.5 miles in Enfield, with a full feasibility study estimated to cost $200,000 to $225,000.
