CT ENFIELD — Town Council hears BusPatrol school bus camera proposal. Brad Macdowell of BusPatrol described automated cameras that photograph license plates of drivers illegally passing stopped school buses. Connecticut Public Act 24-107 permits municipal adoption of such enforcement systems with $250 penalties per violation.
BusPatrol operates 45,000 cameras nationwide using artificial intelligence to identify vehicles and reduce administrative review. The town bears no upfront cost; BusPatrol charges $250 per bus monthly plus $65 per collected infraction, with remaining revenue going to the municipality. Assistant Town Manager Steve Bielenda confirmed support from the bus company, schools superintendent, and police chief, with two to three infractions per bus daily estimated.
