Zone Change Approved on South River Street Despite Resident Opposition

Planning & Zoning Commission · Meeting of January 8, 2026

CT ENFIELD — Enfield Planning and Zoning approves South River Street zone change 4-3. The commission voted January 8 to change eight South River Street properties from TD-1 to TD-4 zoning, allowing higher-density transit-oriented development despite opposition from residents concerned about traffic and neighborhood character. Commissioners Kenneth Hilinski and Francis Alaimo supported the change as a development opportunity in Thompsonville; Commissioners Linda DeGray and John Petronella opposed it, citing resident concerns.

The zone change was deemed consistent with the town's Plan of Conservation and Development. The commission also elected Hilinski as Chair, Christian D'Antonio as First Vice Chair, Linda DeGray as Second Vice Chair, and Petronella as Secretary, all unanimously.
