Commission backs charter language changes, keeps safety director role

CT ENFIELD — Enfield Charter Revision Commission retains safety director, advances multiple charter updates. The Commission voted 6-1 to keep the Director of Public Safety position as a required charter role, with only Commissioner Gregory Stokes dissenting, while unanimously approving language revisions across Chapter 5 addressing town attorney and Town Manager qualifications, department listings, personnel terminology, public meeting notice procedures, and Chief of Police suspension authority. Town Manager Matthew Coppler and Town Clerk Sheila Bailey provided background during discussion.

The Commission tabled further debate on a proposed town council member stipend until a future meeting.
